Yonda

Yonda has seen better days. It was relatively hospitable to human life before the Scream but afterwards everything fell into chaos. Vast badlands scar the land where once there were thriving cities and lush fields. Conventional, nuclear and forbidden weapons technology, along with a hundred-year-long rain of starships and orbital shipyards ruined the biosphere of the planet, caused horrible mutations and decimated what little population had survived the psychic catastrophe. Over the last 600 years, Yonda has existed in a state of conflict between tribalism, warlord states and total anarchy. It is only within the last 100 years that small groups of humans and joqqa have scratched together the resources to build lasting communities based on the rule of law and common good. 75 years ago, a megacorp known as Hewkline to the locals began rebuilding Yonda’s ruined shipyards in orbit, but it is only in the last decade that they’ve bothered to come to the surface at all. The military of the Roman Senate of Haven has been present on Yonda slightly longer, with early surveyors noting the rich fields of pretech protected by poorly equipped, squabbling savages. A chain of military outposts has been set up and a the XXII “Howler Bat” Legion deployed, but they seem to have been forgotten by the Senate, so now they fend off the occasional swarms of mutants, cannibals and psychotic raiders while trying to help the Steaders when they can. Otherwise, they stay in their forts and wait for orders from home.
